UV protection
Most sunglasses do indeed have the UV400 as I've discussed in this article here. Look around for the UV sticker on the pair or ask the question before you buy. Nobody wants to buy a pair of sunglasses only to find out they are low quality and do not offer UV protection.
Shatter Resistance
All sunglasses have a certain degree of shatter resistance built in automatically. The very nature of having a curved lens represents a strong firm support for the lenses in a head on impact like a fishing hook ripping out of the water if it gets snagged and your pulling to hard. However, with sunglasses you can also get additional support from shatter resistant lenses.
Plastic is preferred over glass for shatter resistance. The reason is because glass breaks at a certain velocity of an incoming object whereas plastic is strong enough to withstand the blast.
However, polycarbonate plastic is the best type of lens. It is very clear and strong plastic that can with stand a lot higher velocity impact than all types of lenses.
Keeping your sunglasses clean
You definitely do not want to scratch your lenses in any way. There a few known methods for keeping a pair of sunglasses spotless and in 'new' condition.
Using microfibre sunglasses bags to store your sunglasses when your not wearing them is the ideal solution. Get a bag that has a pull tight string on it so you can then leave them anywhere, however there is the problem of sitting on them or stepping on them.
A sunglasses visor clip comes handy in your vehicle. Do not leave your sunglasses just sitting on your seat or you or someone you know may sit on them. The solution is to buy a sunglasses visor clip that attaches to the sunglasses visor in your vehicle.
